You Better Belize It!

We had an amazing time in Belize for our honeymoon and would definitely recommend it to anyone interested in going.  We stayed on Ambergris Caye in San Pedro, an island off the mainland.

There was a bit of a snafu with United Airlines and I unfortunately missed my flight to meet Ben for our first night; I had to stay the night in Houston. While that was a huge bummer, I finally made it to our awesome condo Caye Casa the next afternoon.

We got to relax, go on some fun trips and had some delicious food! We rented kayaks and cruised the waters one afternoon-you can see the impending storm but the weather was beautiful most of the week,

We met another couple, Chris and Amy, staying in our complex that we ran around with throughout the week.  We did an obligatory tourist photo at Caliente for dinner that night.

The next day, our tour guide Captain Baxter took us out to Hol Chan Marine Reserve in his boat.  We snorkeled through the coral, swam with sea turtles, sting rays and nurse sharks-it was awesome!

Later that afternoon, wee scheduled our big excursion day back to the mainland for cave tubing, zip lining and the Mayan ruins tour.  We also met up with Rachel, one of our friends from the bar where we used to play trivia, and her husband and friend who we happened to randomly run into and were staying right next to us! Very fun coincidence : )

Our condo's owner's son asked us to join him and some friends for a booze cruise to another island, Caye Caulker.  We went with Chris and Amy and took a catamaran out to the island, snorkeling along the way.  Very fun to talk with some local people and learn more about the island.  We go to see a beautiful sunset that happened in the blink of an eye-great day!

The next day was our trip to the mainland.  We took a water taxi back and met up with our guide.  We drove into the country where we checked out Altun Ha Mayan ruins.  Very cool and impressive-and we made it right before the cruise ship tour buses arrived!  We then went on to the cave tubing and zip lining-no photos because I was too scared to break the camera!

The next day we relaxed a bit more and explored more of the island-had lunch at Warramunga and got some Belizean fudge ice cream.  That night was the Chicken Drop-a bingo-style game where a chicken is dropped onto a numbered board.  You buy a ticket for a square on the boar and if the chicken poops on your square-you win the pot!  Amy was our "fluffer"-the chicken dropper but we didn't win.

Friday we woke up to a rainy day-stuck inside for a lot of the day but I was able to get a massage on the beach later that afternoon and then we discovered a beautiful rainbow-well worth the storm!

Another low-key dinner at one of the restaurants in town where we got free drinks-Rum and Cokes, the drink of the island.

Rain throughout the day Saturday again but we made it out to our dock to catch a few rays in the afternoon.

That evening we went to the Sunset Grill for dinner-the restaurant sits on a dock on the west side of the island so you can watch the sun go down while eating some delicious seafood.  However we had a pretty cloudy evening so we missed the sunset and had to settle for feeding the tarpon.  These fish have sharp teeth and swarm around the dock, jumping up to grab the sardines you dangle over them.  Ben went  for it and it was hilarious!

We had more rain that night and had to run home in a torrential rainstorm-we'll definitely get golf carts if we go again : )

Sunday we bittersweetly got our stuff ready to go home.  We had an awesome time but we were excited to get back to KC and get our house packed and ready for our big move to Seattle.

All in all, an amazing adventure and some fantastic memories made!
