This word couldn't have been a more perfect five-minute Friday prompt. As of this month, we've been in the PNW for about a year and a half. We miss Kansas City dearly; it was my first home away from home and it's where Ben and I started our lives together. Ben had been there about 10 years and I had been there about 4. We had definitely built a life we felt good about there.
Then came the move to Seattle 6 short months after we got married. We are so thankful and blessed to have Ben's extended family out here to lean on. However, it can still be hard starting over somewhere, especially in our late-20's and mid-30's. It's hard making friends! There are no sorority mixers or study groups to join available at your fingertips; it's all on you to put yourselves out there and find friends.
Again, we were both blessed with jobs and career environments that have given us an easy opportunity to find new friends. Also, we joined a church that we are getting more comfortable in. With our new baby on the way, we weren't sure how easy it would be out here with limited resources for advice and support. However, we have been humbled by the generosity of our new communities. Both of our workplaces have thrown us a baby shower, we are starting to meet other couples at church and our apartment complex has 3 other families with little ones in them that have given us an opportunity to meet each other.
Belonging somewhere can seem to take a long time to achieve but as days pass and time goes by the Pacific Northwest is becoming our home and we are so grateful for everyone who has made that possible!
